What's Your Title?

Right now I’m reading this book called “You Are A Bad Ass.  How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Live an Awesome Life” by Jen Sincero. I’m not going to lie, the bright cover and BADASS in all caps is what drew me to the book but the content is just as colorful.

If you need a pick me up, or even if you don’t, I suggest reading this gem.  “In this refreshingly blunt how-to guide, Sincero, serves up 27 bite-sized chapters full of hilariously inspiring stories, life-changing insights, easy exercises and the occasional swear word.”

Like many self help books, each chapter starts with a quote, author of the quote, and a title. i.e.  “I carried a watermelon” ~Francis “Baby” Housman, college student, dancer, philanthropist.

A few chapters in one of these quotes and titles stuck out to me and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

“When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears” ~ Anthony Robbins, speaker, motivator, life-changer.

Speaker.  Motivator.  Life-changer.  Let those words sink in.

Those are some pretty awesome words to describe someone.  And I thought to myself, well shit, I want that to be my title too.  So, where do I begin?

First I should get over my fear of public speaking.  It’s really not my strong suit and I usually break out into hives (the severity depends on the size of the crowd).  But honestly, I feel like I’ve got some great things to say and I need to get over it.

Motivator.  I think I have that one down but there’s always room for improvement.

And life-changer.  This one is particularly funny and grabbed my attention because my buddy Paul, my sister, and myself have a running joke refer to Kate as “life-changer”.  But then after reading the term life-changer describing someone other than my sister, I had another lightbulb moment.  Aren’t we all life-changers?  Don’t we all change someone’s life in one way or another every day?  I mean, at least that’s what I strive to do.  I kid you not, every day I wake up I think to myself, how can I make someone’s day better.  I think that’s the start to changing someone’s life, first start with changing/ brightening their day!

So as we head into the weekend, some food for thought… What sayings would you like to be remembered by.  And more importantly, what’s your title?
