Meditation Monday
I shouldn’t be surprised that meditation is the subject that I have gotten the most questions and comments on, the mere two times I mentioned it in this blog. Everyone wants to be more calm, peaceful, and mindful but they don’t know where to start. Enter meditation.
Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Meditation practices are techniques that encourage and develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and a calm seeing of the true nature of things. This is achieved when the mind is calm and silent.
Your mind works 24/7 and it’s been given the impossible task of narrating your entire life. How exhausting that must be! Can you imagine having to work 24 hours a day 7 days a week since you were born? Now imagine how amazing it would feel if you had worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and then all of a sudden got a 10 minute break. Even that little bit of downtime would rejuvenate the heck out of you and keep you working for the next “break”. Now apply that concept to your mind. Give it a break.
The awesome thing about meditation is that you can do it anywhere. Think Green Eggs and Ham-esque: on a train, in a plane, with a goat, on a boat… seriously, it can be done anywhere. For all you mass transit morning commuters… bingo! Put down your kindle or tablet and quiet your mind. Load a guided mediation onto your iPhone and listen during your commute to work.
I often do on my morning walk with Skyy, I make it a point to not bring my phone with me on our walks so I can actually enjoy the time I get in the morning before the chaos of the day begins. We go to a pocket park every morning on our walk and there are chairs there; I let her do her thing and I squeeze in a quick 3/4 minute meditation while I’m enjoying the morning and my hot lemon water. It’s just a great way to start my day.
I encourage you to start your own meditation practice; it only takes 1 minute to begin and you can slowly build up to more time as you cultivate your practice. If you want some tips on how check out my new page at the top of this post, Meditation 101; every Monday I’ll post something new to the page to help you either begin or cultivate your practice. You can also tune into guided meditations from your phone, tablet, or laptop. Hell, you can even sync your YouTube account to your Blu Ray players and play them through your television (Gabby Bernstein (my spirit idol whom I’m going to see in person Nov 12th when she comes to South Florida!) has some great FREE guided meditations on her website, check them out!)
Happy Monday and happy meditating! Cheers!
